2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Boost Struggling Action Game Ambitious Title
The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Comes After Mixed Feedback
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last fall.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the requirement for a more defined vision.
The president stated that the developers is now refining the project with a refreshed approach, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
This announcement mirrors a comparable move taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the complete content from the president's announcement:
Team—
I understand you all just completed your meeting - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to continue.”
Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but made clear we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the need for a clearer brand.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the input to consideration and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s poised to fulfill its ambition to our fans.
Our confidence in this project grows every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the incoming Lead of the team. Following several months of talks, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s leadership and background in the competitive gaming space is extensive, having spent the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to keep seeing the progress of the game in the months to ahead.
David
