It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
